Mechanical Technician

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for Mechanical Technician located at Gerald Gentleman Station in Sutherland, NE.

 

Position closes May 14, 2018.

 

Summary of Job duties:

Perform mechanical maintenance of station equipment, including mobile equipment, the unit trains, and railroad spur tracks.

 

Essential Functions of Position:

 -Maintain station equipment, including mobile equipment, unit trains and railroad spur tracks, through performance of preventive, predictive, and routine maintenance activities.

-Complete repairs, new installations and modifications of mechanical equipment.

-Maintain shop equipment, tools, test equipment, and facilities in a clean, operable and professional appearance.

-Participate in training to maintain qualifications as a Mechanical Technician and train others through on-the-job or formal methods.

-Provide technical direction and / or lead a work crew of fulltime or part-time employees, or contract employees as necessary. Depending upon experience and capability, this position could provide technical direction for other employees on a regular basis.

-Maintain and improve station reliability by performing investigations and troubleshooting failures / deficiencies of plant equipment. Partner with other departments, vendors, etc. as needed to ensure successful completion of this responsibility.

-Continually improve the quality of mechanical maintenance processes through feedback to teammates, supervision, and other departments.

-Incumbent is responsible to comply with the expectations for this position as specified in the GGS Expectations Manual.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education, Training and Experience:

 

Two-year Associates Degree in mechanical discipline or related field, and 3 years of experience as a mechanic in an industrial setting

 

OR

 

Equivalent military training, and 3 years of experience as a mechanic in an industrial setting

 

OR

 

High School diploma/GED and either: 1) a minimum of 5 years of experience as a mechanic in an industrial setting, or 2) completion of a mechanical apprentice program, or 3) other work experience or demonstrated performance indicating that the applicant has the skills and ability to perform the required duties of the position.

 

In addition to experience already listed, prior related experience maintaining heavy equipment and or welding experience in an industrial setting using the tig and stick welding processes are desired.

 

Licenses and/or Certifications Required: None.

 

Salary Information: Pay Grade 12 ($31.91 - $40.31); Non-Exempt
