Direct Senior Reactor Operator or Shift Technical Engineer

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Direct Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) or Shift Technical Engineer (STE) located at Cooper Nuclear Station near Brownville, Nebraska.

Summary of Job duties:

Responsible for the operation of the reactor and station equipment ensuring safe and efficient operation of Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) in accordance with State and Federal Regulations, Plant Operating License, and Station Procedures while meeting the electrical power needs of NPPD.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Participate in a license class to obtain & maintain a NRC Operating License and/or STE certification
  • Perform Operations staff functions as a SRO or STE
  • Supervise and direct operating shift crews on rotating 12 hour shifts
  • Respond to abnormal, transient and accident conditions.
  • Implement the Emergency Preparedness Plan and perform the duties of the Emergency Director (in the absence of the Shift Manager until relieved by higher line management.
  • Coordinate with other departments in the maintenance and testing of plant components and equipment

Experience Required:

  • Navy Nuclear Officer with a 4 year degree, or
  • Enlisted Nuclear background with EOOW or EWS or RO qualifications, or
  • STE requires ABET accredited Engineering degree, or
  • Previous commercial nuclear power plant Operations or Engineering experience

Salary Information: $90,000 to $106,574 Depending on qualifications, Non-Exempt while attending class. Upon receipt of NRC License, candidate will be promoted to the position qualified for.
