Part-Time Temporary Communication Specialist

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Part-Time Temporary Communication Specialist located at Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS), near Brownville, Nebraska.This part-time temporary position will last a minimum of six (6) months and no longer than one (1) year.

Note: Incumbent works inside the fence at CNS and must be able to successfully pass all requirements to be badged.

Position closes September 26, 2017.

This position reports to the Nuclear Communication Specialist.

Summary of Job Duties   

This position supports the strategic internal and external communication for NPPD’s Cooper Nuclear Station, working under the direction of an NPPD Corporate Communications professional.

Incumbent should have knowledge of current communication methods including strategic communication planning, special events, publication writing, layout and design, and audio-visual production, photography, emergency communications, and inter-,intra-net-based products.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Write stories and articles and lay them into design print publications; create Power Point presentations.
  • Take photographs, shoot amateur video, and determine or select appropriate photos or graphics to be used in print and online publications;
  • Edit copy prior and gain approval from business units for communication release.
  • Develop and implement communication plans for internal issues.
  • Support onsite communications and external community events.
  • Establish and adhere to deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with management and business units to foster employee communication.
  • Participate in NPPD's nuclear and non-nuclear emergency response plan.
  • Assist with media relations, including developing talking points.
  • Assist in determining the content of communication materials; scheduling and design of publications; and timing, photography and appropriate distribution of corporate information, consistent with the assigned position level.
  • Miscellaneous responsibilities as assigned or required.


  • Education, Training, and Experience:

    Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism, or business-related field (OR) Associates degree plus two years' experience as indicated below (OR) High School diploma/GED plus five years’ experience as indicated below.

  • Experience:

    InDesign, Photoshop, Power Point, Word, SharePoint, and other related software used for desktop publishing is required.

    Photography, public speaking, social media, and media relations is preferred.

    Electricutility knowledge is preferred.

  • Licenses and/or Certifications Required/Preferred:

    Society of America or Association of Business Communications membership desired, but not required.

 Salary Information:      Pay grade 10, $24.72 to $31.22/Hour   Non-Exempt
